Some spans to become toll bridges
Raleigh, N.C. — In the state’s efforts to replace 8,000 bridges in 20 years, some spans are on the early list to become toll bridges.
There is a proposal to replace the Yadkin River Bridge, just east of
Salisbury on I-85, with a toll bridge.
The state has 18,000 bridges. In order to replace 8,000 of them, the
state Department of Transportation will need to replace 400 per year. Currently
it averages 120 per year.

SOUTH HILL, Va. — Interstate 85 carries thousands of vehicles across the North Carolina - Virginia border each day. A plan by Virginia to put up tollbooths at the state line and charge motorists $5 every time they cross has the town of South Hill screaming at its own state lawmakers.
Toll road plan bothers EPA workers

Some Research Triangle Park workers are unhappy that a planned toll
road through RTP will add extra miles, money and minutes to their daily
commute.
Construction on the planned Triangle Parkway will close a busy half-mile extension of the Durham Freeway that links Interstate 40 to Alexander Drive.
The N.C. 147 link is part of the path to work each day for many of the 1,800 commuters at a rolling, wooded RTP campus shared by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
